The Arab American Cultural Center of Oregon promotes the richness and beauty of Arab culture via community events, festivals and family entertainment throughout the calendar year. AACCO sponsors its own events, and also lends support when possible to existing Arab culture activities held in the Portland Metro Area and the Pacific Northwest region.
We celebrated the passage of the bill that makes April the official Arab Heritage Month in Oregon, the second state in the US to permanently recognize Arab American Heritage Month - Illinois being the first. Yussef Fakih, Vice President, as well as AACCO’s Board Members spearheaded this effort with the support and dedication of Representative Anna Williams, and Oregon Governor Kate Brown signed into law House Bill 2914 which declares April of each year as Arab American Heritage Month.
We held our annual Arab Festival virtually on April 11, 2021. We shared about Arab jewelry, paintings, poetry, and much more. Also, we hosted our first cooking classes throughout the month of April. Check out the videos on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/aaccopdx/
